You may be looking at the latest flyer and and wondering which class to take? Please keep in mind that the Intermediate level and up is always changing as those individual dancers advance as a group. Perhaps these general guidelines can help you:
Beginner - Wednesdays - 6:30 p.m. - Slayton House - Columbia
Beginner classes are most appropriate for beginners, advanced beginners, and intermediate students who still need support learning non-layered technique, or intermediate students transferring from another teacher. This is where you learn the basic techniques, zil patterns, beginner choreography, and you begin to layer your movements. All new students begin at this level, but those who clearly need to be in the next level will be invited to moved up. In this level, each technique is taught from the ground up.
Intermediate - Wednesdays - 7:30 p.m. - Slayton House - Columbia
Level II classes are meant for intermediate level dancers who are familiar with basic techniques and are getting comfortable layering those techniques. These classes move a bit faster than the beginner level. Choreography gets more difficult and is taught at a faster pace. The zil patterns are more complex. The students have been dancing longer and technique instruction is aimed more at improving your movement than teaching it at the beginner level. This class will focus on Al Safaar troupe choreography. This class is quite a jump from the beginner level. We really need a middle level in there, but we just don't have the numbers to support it right now.
Turbo Tuesday - Tuesdays - 7:30 p.m. - The Studio - Columbia
Turbo Tuesday is our newest class level. It is choreography focused and comprised almost exclusively of advanced students with experience in other troupes. These classes are by invitation only and aimed at the dancer who can function on an independent level, but enjoys dancing with a troupe. This class is comprised of dancers who always skew towards the head of their other classes, learn choreography at a quicker than average pace, and who rarely forget chunks of the choreography once it's been taught. These dancers never leave me wondering whether or not they'll consistently remember the choreography on stage and they're comfortable with much less individual attention.
