Finger Cymbals

You can call them zils, or finger cymbals, or sagat.  Whatever you call them, just get them on your fingers and practice!  We talked about Artemis's zil CD in class.  Artemis is a belly dance treasure and we're very lucky that she's local to us in the Baltimore - D.C. area.  You may be wondering WHY you would order an old school CD when you're used to downloading everything?  The answer is that this CD comes with the BEST little instructional booklet.  It's Zilling 101 and a wonderful tool for dancers who want to learn the rhythms and improve their zil skills.  Here is the Amazon Link. This CD is NOT required for any of my classes, just a fun extra for those who want it.

Don't own zils yet?  Don't worry!  You can order them online.  There are other brands of quality zils out there, but I tend to share the Saroyan Mastercrafts website with my students.  The Turkish style seems to be the easiest for beginners, but listen to the sound clips and get what you love.  If you love your zils you're more likely to practice.
